My son plays Generals, and it's a real pain!! This isn't a D-Link issue at all. PS: if you don't help I'll post your embarrassing responses to my tech support questions. Even better, can you ask EAP to reconsider the ports they use? I figure you guys would get a response if you asked, and it would only take 5 minutes of your time, and it would help many of your customers. I had no trouble when using DMZ, but I don't want to use it.Īnyway, D-Link person, if you are here, could you please please please ask EAP for an OFFICIAL list of ports they use, rather than my rough guess? EAP doesn't help customers, and I already emailed D-Link tech support three times but no response on that question yet. Apparently, EAP thought it would be a good idea to randomly choose a new port in that range every game. After many many tries, I can now play online with the port range 8000-27000 open. So, I started over but instead of opening one port I opened a range of 1000. Soon, I had a large number of ports and no working games. Using my log, I would start a game, see what port got blocked, open it, etc, just like I did with Gold. Is there such a thing? That is a serious question, someone please answer. I can only assume that those ports only need to be opened on firewalls that block outgoing connections. (WW's faq claimed, and still claims despite numerous emails, that you have to open dozens of ports in the 4000's)ĮAP lists a bunch of ports to open to play Generals, or at least connect to the Generals server. Too bad I had to be in DMZ for a year while D-Link ignored me. There was no description as to what it did, but I tried it and it had a log! From here I was able to figure out what port CnC Gold used online (5009) so I could play without DMZ. Obviously these were completely useless responses, so I gave up for a year.Įventually, a new firmware was released. Emails to tech support about this largely went unanswered, and were occasionally replied to with yet another copy of the faq, or yet another copy of the manual. It is probably the only firewall in history to not have a log. However, I have found a way to make Generals and Gold work with my DI-704. So, EAP is useless, and D-Link tech support actually responded to (but didn't read) my email.
